Hi, 75/90 gear oil according to last invoice, there seemed to be some debate about using this or engine oil but apparently this was what came out when seals replaced, etc about 9 months ago.

The only model of drive that uses gear oil is 120SE. All the rest use engine oil.

Ladder hook and ladder hook plate: http://timage.eu/marine/88-ladder-fittings

Mine are made from chromed brass, not SS. Haven't managed to snap one off yet :)

Bavaria Yacht Help! / Re: folding Prop/feathering prop

I fitted a Darglow feathering prop and am very pleased with it, the fixing means it will never accidentally come off.  I went for the feathering as I like the fact that the gearing is totally enclosed from the elements.  I have seen folding props fail to open because of a small crustacean.  I also had a folding prop fail to open on a friends boat after picking up a rope,  the prop was turning and rope free from prop shaft but the weight of rope on the folding prop blades meant it would not open.  Hope that helps.

I'd suggest you take the broken pieces off, and go visit your nearest stainless steel fabricator and ask them to stainless weld the broken parts back together. Alternatively they may be able to fabricate what appears to be a simple hook device that allows the top of the ladder to be hooked in to brackets attached to the bulkhead.

Good luck.

Bavaria Yacht Help! / Nasty gearbox noise
« Last post by PhilB on Yesterday at 20:06 »
During the last 2 trips over 4 hours, towards the end of each trip we had a noise from the gearbox/leg that sounds like partially engaged gears. In neutral the noise stops. I suspected the cable to the gearbox was not holding fully engaged but checked this and looks ok. Noise disappeared once neutral selected and then put back in gear but not sure what to check. Oil is top of dipstick and clear. Any ideas?

Hi Paddy

Yep, Lyra's correct. If you're connected to shore power, the light should be on even if the breakers are off.

Yes, I forgot to update the forum.  I finally got the trim off mine and found a big gap in the hull/deck sealant.  Boat now bone dry.
